Icon Agency, one of Australia’s leading integrated communications firms, has won two Gold Stevie® Awards at the 2018 Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards.

The Melbourne-based agency won two Gold Stevie® Awards in the “Innovation in Community Relations and Public Service Communication” category and “Innovation in Public Affairs Communications” category for its multi-channel communications campaign, ‘Now’s The Time’ – Australian National Firearm Amnesty 2017.

“To receive two Gold Stevie® Awards for this campaign is a true testament to the high calibre of work Icon produces, our expertise in behaviour change and the relationships we have with our clients,” said Managing Director Joanne Painter. “We are honoured to receive such an incredible award.”

Icon was appointed by the Australian Government’s Attorney-General’s Department to create a nation-wide campaign to raise public awareness of the role/purpose of the Australian National Firearm Amnesty, to drive the removal of unregistered guns from the community.

Icon created a strategic PR and Creative campaign that utilised behaviour change methodology to amplify key campaign messages and connect with the target audience. Using a strong call to action “Now’s the time” to build a sense of urgency, a suite of collateral was created that communicated the amnesty through positive messaging, focusing on the benefits of the amnesty rather than the risks inherent to possessing an unregistered firearm.

As a result of the 3-month campaign over 57,000 firearms were handed in, significantly reducing the number of unregistered firearms in the community.

The Stevie® Awards are widely considered to be the world's premier business awards, conferring recognition for achievement in programs such as The International Business Awards for 16 years. More than 800 nominations from organisations across the Asia-Pacific region were considered this year in categories, including corporate communications, public relations, website, management among others.

Icon Agency, along with the Australian Government Attorney General’s Department will be officially recognised with the honour at a gala banquet at the Mira Hotel in Hong Kong, on 1 June.
