Following rapid growth throughout 2020 and Q1 2021, Icon Agency has expanded its Sydney operations, opening a new office at Pyrmont’s Jones Bay Wharf. The new office will provide a base for the agency’s rapidly growing Sydney team and NSW client base.

The expansion follows Icon’s successful 2020, which saw double-digit growth on the back of 20 new clients and major projects, including contracts with the Department of Home Affairs, Schneider Electric, ADP, the Alcohol and Drug Foundation, the Victorian Government and Global Victoria.

Growth with purpose

Says Joanne Painter, managing director, Icon Agency: “The expansion of our Sydney team and move to new offices in Pyrmont is an exciting milestone in Icon’s national expansion program.

“We’re excited by the fantastic array of new projects and retained accounts we’ve secured in the last year and are on track for continued strong growth in 2021.

“Beginning in 2018 with the opening of our first interstate office in Canberra, our focus has been on building a truly integrated national agency to give clients access to best-in-class creative communications and digital transformation solutions.

“Being agile, independent and founder led has proven to be a key advantage over the past 15 months, allowing us to invest ahead of growth and target high-value services and segments through strategic new hires.”

In line with its expanding client roster and office network, Icon went against the industry trend in 2020, increasing staff numbers by over 20%. Since January, the firm has added a further 11 new full-time employees to its digital, creative, PR and planning teams.

Icon also introduced new workplace cultural programs, including Icon Academy, fully flexible working arrangements, expanded leave arrangements and “Beach-bum January”, an initiative which grants employees a weekly 2pm finish to enjoy fair summer weather.

Adds Painter: “We’re proud to be building a best-practice workplace. For us, talent retention and development is more than a business goal: it’s part of our DNA. We want to create a workplace that values and supports all our staff, and we know that this culture is created from the top down.”
